Truly Canadian….

Happy Canada Day ALL!! Joyeuse FETE du Canada!

When people ask me where I’m from I have a difficult time answering. Eventually, I say Canada. Born in Vancouver, brought up in Banff and PEI, schooled in London, Ontario, and Quebec City (La Ville de Quebec) (et, oui.. je parle le Francais!), lived in Frederiction, Ottawa, Montreal. Worked in Banff, Vancouver, and theatrically toured all the Western provinces.

I feel Canadian.

Landed and left you dangling!

One week and 2 days ago I successfully completed my summer/fall road trip of Vancouver to Prince Edward Island and back. Sorry for leaving you dangling about my arrival. (if anyone is still reading!) I’m safe.

I was lucky. Tres lucky as snow and cold temperatures were on my heels but… Continue reading “Landed and left you dangling!”

Western Canada….. finally

It’s my last day on the road. Last day traveling. By the time I reach Vancouver I will have driven at least 12,000 km.

I’ve been very fortunate, thus far (still have to drive from Penticton to Vancouver today) with weather and nothing dramatic. Hope the trend continues for the day.

I have seen SO much terrain, beautiful show stopping, provocative scenery. I have been with so many types of families, homes, motels, and had such a variation of conversations along the way.

I have a lot to think about. To process.

I am very thankful for this voyage.

But.

We still have some route to do so BUCKLE up and one more final route.

Rocks and Trees and Trees and Rocks and … waterrrrr!

A Canadian group, The Arrogant Worms, coined my title. I borrowed it from their fun song, Rocks and Trees.  It’s true, true, true! Northern Ontario fascinates me with its wilderness and its people. IMG_5367trip Today I searched for a truck stop for breakfast and was dubious when… Continue reading “Rocks and Trees and Trees and Rocks and … waterrrrr!”

Sault Ste. Marie, Cirque, some memories…

I’ve lost count what day this is on my return road trip. Does it really matter?

Tonight I sit in a motel in Nipigon, the same town where I stopped on the way east. This time I chose a better motel.

Today I drove from Sault Ste. Marie (the “Soo”). The day was perfect. Dry roads and clear, sunny skies. I’m a lucky mook as it had snowed in this area in the day or two before. Whew… that was close!

Still on Prince Edward Island….

I am still in Prince Edward Island.

PEI was my final destination East and I knew I’d spend awhile here. My mother and father needed a good lift so that’s what I’ve been doing. This time has been full of mixed emotions. Like some of the topography here, constant shifting dunes. I witness the parallels between the challenges my parents face in their difficult aging (does anyone have an easy aging?) and life itself.

Day 15: Last day rolling to…. Confederation Bridge!

I’m here. I’m in Prince Edward Island. Holy moly. I did it.

I arrived on the day I was hoping for. My birthday, August 21st. My goal was to reach my Dad and have a brandy toast. Well, it happened. We were ecstatic! And, have been talking and sharing stories non-stop.

Birthday brandy with Dad!
