Time to Write Again!

My poor blog has been neglected for a few years. And, the last few years? Holy moly.

How are you?

If I were to summarize, do a “Reader’s Digest” version of the recent years it would look like this:

2018: Wrote short film script: The Rolling Pin

2019: Edited script and it received funding from FilmPEI to be made.

2020: First week of March we filmed “The Rolling Pin”.

2020: Second week of March attended Women Making Waves film conference in Halifax

2020: End of that week, the world shut down due to the Covid Pandemic. I stayed in PEI to keep an eye on my Mum in long term care.

2020: Laid low on PEI, visual editing my film over the computer with my editor, sound edited as well, finished the film for a small film festival in PEI in November. During that year, advocated for a Partner In Care status for long term care and finally was allowed in; renovated a cabin; harvested trees so we could plant young ones; and continued into ….

2021: More of the same!

2022: Hurricane hit in the fall…. creating much work that continues into now… 2023.

That is the short, short version.

Because of that Hurricane, Hurricane Fiona, the whole of Prince Edward Island was affected by the massive amount of forests, trees, woodlots that got destroyed. Many stories are still being discussed as the cleanup and planting are still happening.

As a theatre person, I am currently involved with a project with the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria By The Sea in Prince Edward Island called “The TreeHuggers Ball”. In a cabaret like form, musicians play a beautiful line up of music reflecting the journey of going through our storm and special guests recount poetry, stories, or songs of their own. My contribution to the event is a surprise visit from my bouffon, Madame Rouge, who brings some comedic relief to the emotional topic of trees.

If you’d like to know more, have a listen to CBC Mainstreet Matt Rainnie’s interview. Click on “TreeHuggers Ball” once you reach the page.

And, come out if you like an evening of having your stormy thoughts expressed, at the same time being inspired to acknowledge our new growth. Two shows left: August 15th ad 22nd!
